Rapid Blue Dissolve Bluing Tablets are placed directly in the toilet at your collection site to ensure sample integrity. Bluing tabs will dye the water blue, which will negate any donor from using clear toilet water to dilute their urine samples. Blue dye is a coloring agent that is used to detect whether a urine specimen donor has tampered with the specimen provided. One tablet of Rapid Blue in a toilet bowl or toilet tank will turn the water blue. If a donor attempts to dilute their own specimen or substitute the entire specimen with the water from either of these sources, the collector will be able to easily detect it.
*REQUIRED PER FEDERAL REGULATIONS In a federally-regulated urine specimen collection, blue dye is required in the toilet bowl and tank when utilizing a standard toilet per Section 7(2) of the DOT Urine Specimen Collection Guidelines promulgated by the Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy Compliance. Blue dye is also required in a collection utilizing a standard toilet per Section 8.2(a) of Subpart H in the Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs published on the Federal Register by the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a sub-agency of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) .
*REQUITED BY STATE REGULATIONS: All states that allow urine specimen testing for private, non-federally regulated employers also either require or encourage chain of custody procedures. Some require it as part of the state statutes and others require it for employers seeking to deny an employee’s workers’ compensation or unemployment benefits on the grounds that the employee was under the influence at work. In order to ensure chain of custody in a standard toilet, coloring agent such as blue dye must be used to detect tampering when a sample is provided.
Blue dye tablets are also a great tool for leak detection and in turn will help identify problem areas in plumbing systems to quickly fix any major or slow leaks that are causing water to be wasted and costs to increase. Common uses to identify leaks using blue dye tabs are in places like pool systems, residential and commercial plumbing systems, or at home to detect a slow toilet leak. Users may use a bluing dye tablet to pinpoint where a pipe or plumbing system is leaking. By dying the water blue, users will be able to easily identify the location of a leak and resolve the issue accordingly.
